DETAILED PROGRAMME

  • Day 1: Departure from San José to Cahuita (5 hrs) Stop for lunch at Palmitour, palm heart tour and typical meal around the heart of palm specialty. This side of the country has an extremely varied agriculture: among pastures, pineapple and cassava fields, the heart of palm locally called palmito is a typical dish and a good way to connect with this side of the country. On the way to Cahuita and its magnificent beaches.
  • Day 2: Departure for a full day in Cahuita. Departure by boat for the underwater trails of Cahuita National Park. Discover the reef as well as the coral massif in this marine jungle a few hundred meters from the coast. Have lunch once back on dry land and then hike through Cahuita National Park. Here wildlife abounds and monkeys, sloths and toucans will undoubtedly be present. Dinner at the hotel.
  • Day 3: Cycling day and visit of Manzanillo. Departure for Puerto Viejo de Limon. Cultural heart of the Southern Caribbean and of the Rasta and Calypso culture, Puerto is a charming fishing village. In Puerto Viejo, you will rent bicycles to enjoy the flat expanses. Departure to Manzanillo (1 hour by bike). Stop regularly to take a look at the countless beaches that make up the coast and then visit the small village of Manzanillo, its typical buildings and the house of Bob Marley. Manzanillo was for a long time a meeting point for the nationalism of the black people of the Americas. Immerse yourself in the history of its places before entering the Gandoca-Manazanillo refuge for a 2h30 walk in the forest. Evolve in the heart of a rainy jungle and enjoy the viewpoints along the sea. Return by bike to Puerto Viejo. Return by transport to Cahuita.
  • Day 4: Departure to indigenous lands. Meet the Bribri people. An important indigenous group in Costa Rica that has maintained the use of its language and traditions. After taking the road to Valle de las Estrellas, we leave by canoe (1 hour) to one of the villages in the community. Your local guide will be waiting for you to share with you the traditions, history and culture of his people. After a tour of medicinal plants, traditional architecture and cosmovision, dive into the world of cocoa and Bribris deities. Enjoy a traditional meal before heading back to Cahuita and its surroundings. Descent of the river by canoe and return to Cahuita. End of the course
