ITINERARY
Starting:
San José airport
Arrival:
San José airport
We will follow a route that runs all along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, from the drier north to the more humid south, in search of the best surf spots. Our first stop is the mythical site of Tamarindo, one of the places to surf in the whole of Costa Rica. The beach is large and has numerous surfing areas which, according to the tides, offer different levels of difficulty.
Further south on the Nicoya Peninsula, we head to Santa Teresa, a chill out tiny town where the original spirit of freedom of surfing remains.
After cresting the amazing waves of Santa Teresa, we’ll head down to Jaco, along a route where travelers can only marvel at the mountains reflected in the clear waters of the Pacific. You’ll notice as we arrive in Jaco that it has a very lively, more festive atmosphere. This is one of the most classic spots of the country and it’s bay is home to national surf competitions.
Finally, dive into the warm waters of the south of the country, first in Dominical where every wave you surf will make you want to swim back to the breaking point to drop your toes into another one.
We’ll finish our circuit with a stop at Pavones, the only 100% surfing beach in the country!

Getting to Tamarindo (or Avellanas)requires a transfer from either of the two international airports. From San Jose (4 hrs.) or Liberia (1.5 hrs.) Overnight in Tamarindo.
Day2: Surfing Day in Tamarindo or Avellanas. Tamarindo is perhaps Costa Rica’s first international surfing destination. Since the 1970s, Californians have come to enjoy the warm water and the superb series of waves that sweep the coast of the Guanacaste region. You can challenge the swell all day long and then enjoy the laid-back nocturnal atmosphere that characterizes this coastal town.
Day 3: Departure to Santa Teresa (3.5 hrs.)
We’ll move south along the coast to the quieter surfing town of Santa Teresa. Along the way you’ll pass through flatlands, ranches and rolling hills.

Day 5: Departure to Jaco (4.5 hrs.)
Our transfer to Jaco is a sequence of spectacular landscapes. After an hour and a half drive we’ll arrive in Paquera where we’ll board a ferry to the city of Puntarenas. When we arrive at the narrow sand spit that is Puntarenas, we will continue our journey down the coast to Jaco.
Day6: Jaco Surfing Day
Jaco is the closest seaside town to the capital, San Jose. It’ beach has several surfing spots for all levels. For experienced surfers, Playa Hermosa beach (just ten minutes north of Jaco) is, at high tide, one of the most impressive short breaks spots in the country! Surfing at sunrise or sunset with the mountain range next to the water is an unforgettable experience.
